Norwegian New Ship Builds 'Among the Largest in the World'

Norwegian's Newest Innovative Ship, Norwegian Encore
The Norwegian Encore

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has shared details about its newbuilds scheduled for delivery between 2030 and 2036.

The company's Q2 earnings presentation revealed that the four vessels will have a capacity of approximately 225,000 tons and can accommodate roughly 5,100 guests each instead of the initially planned 200,000 tons.

Cruise Industry News (CIN) reports the new ships will be approximately 38% larger than the company's largest vessel, the Norwegian Encore, which was constructed in 2019.

Recently, NCL announced that the Norwegian Encore will undergo significant updates, including a renovated Spice H2O, an expansion of Cagney's Steakhouse and Teppanyaki, redesigned suites in The Haven by Norwegian, and the addition of 24 new balcony staterooms."

"With numbers similar to Royal Caribbean’s Oasis-class, which range from 220,000 to 231,000 tons, Norwegian’s new ships will also be among the largest in the world in terms of tonnage," CIN reports.

NCL's new Prima-class ship, the Norwegian Aqua, is set to debut in 2025. In April, NCL celebrated the float out of the Norwegian Aqua, the first of the expanded Prima Plus Class, from its dry dock at the shipyard in Marghera, Venice, Italy.

This 156,000-ton vessel will be larger than its sister ships, the Norwegian Prima and the Norwegian Viva, and can accommodate up to 3,550 guests. Additionally, two more Prima-class ships are scheduled for delivery in 2027 and 2028.

“The Prima Class is a true evolution of the brand,” said Mark Kansley, senior vice president of hotel operations of Norwegian Cruise Line.

“We hear from our guests following every cruise, and they appreciate the intimate nature and greater variety of elevated spaces throughout the ship for them to relax in or explore while on vacation. We are excited to soon deliver on this next chapter of our evolution – the Prima Plus Class – and bring our guests along on our journey.”

Oceania Cruises' Allura will enter service in 2025. Regent will take delivery of Seven Seas Prestige in 2026, followed by a yet-to-be-named sister ship in 2029.
