India Restores E-Visa Service for Canadians

There’s good news for Canadians who want to visit India.

India has restored electronic visa services for Canadian nationals following a two-month political spat with Ottawa.

The CBC reports an Indian foreign ministry official confirmed the restoration of e-visas.

"E-visa services to Canadian nationals have resumed," an Indian government official aware of the decision told Reuters news service.

The move comes two months after the Canadian government alleged India was involved in the assassination of a Sikh separatist in Canada, a suggestion that sparked a huge outcry in the South Asian nation.

The CBC stated the decision “could ease tensions between the two countries that swapped accusations and expelled each other’s diplomats, with India introducing a visa ban on Canadian nationals.”

It's also a decision that should spark further travel between the two countries, which is good news for airlines and the travel industry in general.

G Adventures said it was delighted with the news.

“India still has a long way to go to get back to pre-pandemic travel numbers, but had made great strides over the past year, with numbers in 2023 surpassing 2022 by 131 per cent,” officials said. “We are excited to be changing more lives through travel with our agency partners in this stunning and colourful destination once again.

“We are in the midst of our largest sale of the year with our Cyber Sale and we have discounts across the vast majority of our trips to India with discounts as high as 30%.”
