Grenada is on a roll.
Known as the “Spice Isle,” this Caribbean destination is forecasting a remarkable 19% increase in tourist arrivals for the first six months of this year as compared to 2023.
Tourism officials said the island has already achieved a 30% increase in arrivals for the first quarter of 2024, highlighting its successful efforts to boost its tourism sector through enhanced connectivity, sustainable tourism initiatives, and strategic marketing campaigns.
Grenada was recently selected as one of only four destinations, alongside, Jamaica, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, to be featured as a case study showcasing the importance of sustainability initiatives in the tourism industry. This recognition underscores the island’s commitment to preserving its natural and cultural heritage while attracting environmentally conscious travellers.
“Our focus on sustainable tourism and community involvement has been central to our growth,” said Petra Roach, CEO of the Grenada Tourism Authority. “By offering unique experiences such as the recently expanded Molinière Underwater Sculpture Park, we have been able to attract eco-conscious travellers while preserving our natural and cultural heritage.
“Canada is an extremely important market for Grenada and traditionally has been our fourth largest source market behind USA, UK and the Caribbean,” Roach told Open Jaw in an interview last year.
Travellers can book now for a relaxing vacation or to enjoy some of the islands’ highly sought-after events, such as Spicemas in August. There are also new luxury hotels to explore, including Silversands Beach House and Six Senses La Sagesse.
Grenada is known for its waterfalls, hiking, beaches, and boutique accommodations. Not only can visitors check out the main island of Grenada, but they also can explore the islands of Petit Martinique and Carriacou.
