1700 More US Flights Cancelled Tuesday Following Storms that Grounded Over 8000 Flights 26JUN

Air travel disruptions continued in the U.S. on Tuesday 27JUN with powerful storms leading to over 1,700 flight delays or cancellations, reports CNN Travel. The impact was felt across major hubs in the Mid-Atlantic and parts of the Northeast.

The disruptions followed “chaos” on Monday 26JUN, when more than 8,000 flights were either delayed or cancelled due to severe weather and air traffic control staffing issues. Newark Liberty, LaGuardia, JFK, and Boston's Logan airports were the most affected.

United Airlines faced the most significant challenges, with 12 per cent of its flight schedule cancelled and an additional three per cent delayed as of Tuesday morning. United CEO Scott Kirby pointed blame at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the delays, which started on Saturday 24JUN when air traffic controller staffing problems disrupted numerous flights.
