Can Vaccinated US Travellers Visit Europe After EU Decision? It’s Complicated

The EU recently decided to remove the US from its list of “safe travel” countries, meaning that leisure travel to the continent is essentially defunct, and creating confusion for those who had plans to visit this fall. While the EU decision is only a recommendation for its 27 member countries, and each nation can make their own exceptions, this can cause even further confusion. Travel experts expect that most EU countries will likely welcome fully vaccinated US visitors, and perhaps add a negative COVID-19 test as part of entry requirements. Fully vaccinated US travellers can still enter individual countries until, and if, those countries change their entry requirements. Keyes of Scott's Cheap Flights said unvaccinated travellers are likely to face the most changes under any new travel restrictions. "I would imagine most countries will continue to allow in vaccinated Americans,'' he said, noting that many countries rushed to reopen to vaccinated visitors before the EU gave the green light. "If you're unvaccinated you may not be able to travel to as many places in Europe next work or in two weeks as you are able to today.'' But there are no guarantees that fully vaccinated American travellers will be unaffected.
