Machu Picchu Rail Link Reopens Despite Renewed State of Emergency in Peru

The rail route from the ancient Inca city of Machu Picchu from Ollantaytambo in Peru restarted on 15JAN despite a renewed state of emergency in the country. On 14JAN, another 30-day state of emergency in the capital city of Lima was implemented due to ongoing civil unrest following the ousting of former president Pedro Castillo in DEC 2022, reports Travel Weekly. 

The country’s Foreign Office warned of disruption of travel near Machu Picchu as well as at the closest airport, CUZ, which reopened on 14JAN.
