Reopened Museums Lean Into Local Tourism Boom

When COVID-19 hit, many museums resorted to virtual visits, activities and programs as a safety net to tide them over and keep in touch with guests and members. Now, museums across the world are opening up, but many still without international visitors. Instead, museums are pushing into drive-to tourism trends, attempting to lure in local traffic with interesting exhibitions and shows. For example, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, Netherlands is showcasing the reasoning behind art acquisitions dating back a decade. In New York City, the Children’s Museum of Manhattan is upgrading visitations to include three two-hour sessions for families to visit.
