In an effort to boost tourism, the Rwanda Development Board has announced a reduction in the cost of gorilla trekking permits, reduced from USD $1500 to $500 for foreign residents. As reported by Breaking Travel News, the move is part of a wider effort by the Rwandan government to make the country a more attractive destination for tourists.
The move is also expected to benefit local communities living close to the Volcanoes National Park Rwanda, with increased tourist levels expected to boost the income of local communities. Additionally, the Rwandan government hopes to raise more awareness of the endangered mountain gorillas and generate more funds to protect them.
