U.S. Issues “Do Not Travel” Advisory for Parts of Mexico

The U.S. State Department is warning Americans against travelling to six Mexican states, citing the threat of violent crime and/or kidnapping, particularly related to drug cartel violence. As reported by Recommend, “Do Not Travel” advisories have been issued for Mexico’s Colima, Guerrero, Michoacan, Sinaloa, Tamaulipas, and Zacatecas states. While Sinaloa is home to Mazatlan, Recommend notes that few tourists travel to many of these states. Additionally, the State Department has issued an “exercise caution” for the state of Quintana Roo, which is home to Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum and Cozumel.
